I combine traditional Chinese and Japanese acupuncture and herbal medicine with Donna Eden’s Energy Medicine system. I feel like this is a uniquely powerful combination of both time-tested ancient traditions and newer discoveries about the body’s energies and how to balance them so your body can heal itself.
Eden Energy Medicine is a type of energy kinesiology, which is a practice of asking the body what it needs in order to come back into balance. Is there an emotion “stuck” in the body that needs to be processed? Is there a food or allergen that it’s having trouble dealing with? I love working in this way because I don’t need to have all the answers or just make an educated guess about the right treatment for a client—I can just ask their body.
One of my biggest strengths is that I tend to be pretty grounded, especially for an energy worker. That groundedness is often a good match for so many of my clients whose nervous systems are overwhelmed.
I try not to take myself too seriously—I’m not trying to be anyone’s guru or doctor. I think of myself more as a guide, and I find it really helpful to share my own struggles and experiences with difficult emotions and health issues. Every healer has to go through their own healing process in order to gain the wisdom in order to help others with through their own healing processes.
I didn’t get into this work because I’ve “mastered” health or emotional intelligence; this work is something I was interested in learning about so I could try to help myself. A wonderful and unexpected benefit was that I get to do really rewarding work helping people with their own struggles and learning.
It’s very important to me that I’m not judgmental and I’m not “bossy” with my clients. I have plenty of my own issues and I’ve made plenty of mistakes. For myself and for my clients, I’ve seen over and over that having understanding and compassion for our own imperfect human-ness is what allows energy to start flowing again and for real, lasting healing to occur.
